1. Work in a clean, well-ventilated area.
2. Ensure the surfaces to be soldered are clean and free from grease, oxidation and dirt.
3. Select a soldering iron tip suitable for the size of the connection.
4. Heat the soldering iron to an appropriate temperature for Sn60Pb40 soft solder.
5. Clean and lightly tin the soldering tip before beginning work.
6. Place the heated tip against both components being joined.
7. Feed the solder wire into the heated joint rather than directly onto the soldering tip.
8. Allow sufficient solder to flow evenly around the connection.
9. Remove the solder wire, followed by the soldering iron.
10. Keep the connection still until the solder has fully solidified.
11. Inspect the finished joint for an even surface, complete coverage and secure connection.
12. Remove flux residue where required using a suitable cleaning product.
