Direct Bolus Calcium

Direct Calcium Bolus
Dietetic feed for dairy cows in bolus form to supplement calcium around calving and reduce the risk of milk fever and subclinical hypocalcaemia. Contains two highly absorbable forms of calcium (calcium formate and calcium acetate) and provides 25 g of available calcium per bolus.

Why a calcium bolus?
Around calving, calcium demand rises sharply. If the cow cannot keep up, blood calcium drops, leading to milk fever (reduced appetite and activity, cold ears, weak muscles). In 40-50% of cows the signs aren't visible but low calcium can still affect the lactation.

The gelatine capsule dissolves quickly in the rumen, so the calcium is released and absorbed fast, giving a gradual rise in calcium levels that is maintained for longer.

Feed instructions
1 bolus 12-24 hours before calving.
1 bolus immediately after calving.
1 bolus 10-12 hours after calving.
1 bolus 24 hours after calving.

Supportive after milk fever treatment: 1 bolus 2 hours and 1 bolus 12 hours after a calcium infusion.

Give orally with a 36 mm bolus applicator.
