A valuable heat detection aid that assist in identifying cows ready for artificial breeding.
Standing heat behavior in the bovine is the most reliable sign that a cow is ready to be bred.
The detectors are a pressure sensitive device with a built-in timing mechanism designed to be activated by standing heat behavior.
Glued onto the sacrum (tail head).
Pressure from the brisket of a mounting animal requires approximately 3 seconds to turn the detector from white to red.
This timing mechanism helps distinguish between true standing heat versus false mounting activity.
Ensure animals are clean and dry before painting.
Remove any loose hair. In colder climates it may be necessary to warm the Heat Seekers before use.
With the arrows pointing to the head of the animal.
Position the Heat Seeker on the backbone, just behind the hips.
The briskets of the mounting herd mates need to be able to reach the Heat Seeker during mounting activity.
On taller cows place the Heat Seeker further back towards the tail head but do not place on tail head itself.
Once the Heat Seeker is in place hold it in position with one hand and with the other hand use the pads of your fingers to press down hard and push towards the animals head.
Do this to both side panels. To finish off, push down on both ends and then exerting a firm pressure, run your fingers around the edges to seal it down
